Apps? When did these first come out? I try to remember when exactly the first App or its concept first began, however, I can’t seem to pinpoint it. Part of the reason for this, I believe, is because I have never really been a trend follower and much less in the technology field. When everyone was getting their own flip phone at my age, I did not even get a phone. When everyone began getting the sidekick, I was barely getting my first flip phone. When everyone got their first Iphone, I was getting my first Blackberry. Don’t get me wrong! It is not that I am against technology; it just takes me a while to like things. You can see that kind of reflected in the digital map below. Take a look and you will see that I don’t even have the popular Social Media accounts like Twitter, Instagram, or Tik Tok!

Looking at my digital map, I don’t think anything really surprised me. I feel like if I were more tech savvy, I would definitely have more apps on the professional side of my map than the few that I have. The ones that I do have are mostly because they were introduced to me in my professional career, not me seeking them out. These are the visitor, professional apps like PowerSchool, Google Classroom and Remind. Only the professional apps that are on the resident side are apps that I have actually sought out and used in my professional career like Duolingo and Youtube. It also does not surprise me that I have a lot more visitor, personal apps than resident, personal apps. I don’t tend to reside in a wide variety of apps; I mostly just like to visit them since I mostly spend my time in a specific streaming app like Vix and Univision Now.
Taking a look at my screen time information from my phone, it also does not surprise me the data that it shows me. It shows me that my most used app is my streaming app, Vix. On average I spend 2 hours on it every day, and I truly watch it every day. This does not surprise me at all because Vix has a lot of my favorite Mexican Telenovelas, and I love to watch them every day. I usually watch it when I am washing dishes, cooking, folding laundry etc. After that, it shows that I spend about 1 hour on Facebook. I usually check Facebook just to see what is going on, however, recently I have been constantly checking it because I joined an AP Spanish group to try to get some extra support with other teachers since it is my first year teaching the course, and I need all the help I can get. The World Language department at my school consists only of myself and 1 other teacher, but she has no experience with teaching AP. After Facebook, on average I spend 10 minutes on Safari and Messages and everything after that is not more than 2 minutes.
That is typical, basic of me! After looking at my map, however, in order to expand my technological abilities, maybe I should consider taking the following advice.

Thank you for your post, Angelica! I, too, have more visitor spaces than residential, but spend more time on the residential. This was a very interesting project . I usually want new technology, but the excitement of the purchase wears off quickly. It seems that we adopt new technology and change or incorporate it into our lives and then take it for granted.
ReplyDeleteAngelica, your map very much remind me of my own, with more apps on the personal visiting side than on the professional one. I can also relate to checking Facebook groups often, I am a part of quite a few and I am always on the lookout for answers to questions or for resources I can use in my classroom. I will say I admire the fact that you don't Instagram or Tiktok! I spend way too much time on those!
